Day 1
Psalm 1
Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the
ungodly,
nor sits in the path of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of the scornful:
2But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and in His law he meditates day and night.
3He shall be like a tree
planted by the rivers of water,
that brings forth its fruit in its
season,
whose leaf also shall not wither;
and whatever he does shall prosper.
4 the ungodly are not so,
but are like the chaff which the wind
drives away.
5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand
in the judgment
Nor sinners in the congregation of the
righteous.
6For the Lord knows the way of the
righteous,
But the ungodly shall perish.

Psalm 1:1 :
Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the
ungodly,
nor sits in the path of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of the scornful:
In this Passage the psalmist is telling us that we shouldn't follow the ways of the world, we will be blessed if we follow God's way. Romans 12:2 addresses this, “And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” (NKJ) We are also told to put off our old ways [the ways of the world] in Ephesians 4:22-23 “That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.” (NKJ)
The psalmist goes on to say that his delight should be in the law of the Lord. In Psalms 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law he meditates day and night.” (NKJ) Some versions like the amplified says “but his delight and desire..” So to get a deeper understanding of what desire is I looked it up in the Webster’s dictionary desire is a craving. Where as delight is a high degree of pleasure. Webster makes a interesting note about delight. “Delight is a more permanent pleasure than joy and is not dependent on sudden excitement.” The Psalmist is saying that its a permanent craving and delight for God's word, he has a zeal or a zest for God's word, and he is hungry for God's word. He finds joy in God's word.
Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
In this passage God was telling Joshua if he follows what is written in the book of the law then he will make Joshua's way prosperous. We can't just read the word we are to be doer's of the word.
James 1:22 “But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” (NKJ) God will make your way prosperous if you follow His word. He will make you thrive instead of just survive!
Psalms 1:3 Puts it beautifully in this metaphor. “He shall be like a tree planted but the rivers of water, that brings forth it fruit in due season, whose leaf shall not wither and whatever he does shall prosper.”
(NKJ)
Will we face trials in life? You bet, but God will be there to help us through our trials in life. He will never leave you nor forsake you! (Hebrews 13:5) God will give meaning and purpose to our lives and give or lives fruit! And when the winds of this life comes it won't knock us down because we are firmly planted in God and His word.
Psalms 1:4-5 “The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the ways of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” (NKJ)
Some questions I want you to ask yourself are:
1. Am I following God's after God's council or man's?
2. Am I craving/delighting in God's Word?
3. What Does this passage mean to me and how can I apply it to my life?
